Building a base is fairly easy &amp; with a little practice &amp; the right tools- anyone can do it.<\/h5><h5>For this particular base build, I found some legs that I salvaged from an old side table that someone was trashing- I used to grab just about every piece of furniture I found on the side of the road but I was running out of storage. Now, when I find a really beat up, solid wood piece that is too damaged for me to waste my time on refinishing- I strip it for parts!<\/h5><h5>I must say that I do hold onto a bunch of random parts and my friends &amp; family just loveeeee making fun of me for this- but this is the moment that I get to do my happy dance because IM FINALLY USING SOMETHING! Fucking- boom! I knew I could use those legs for something one day! Lol<\/h5><h5>I will not be going into detail on how I built this base, at this time. I promise to do a full post on how to build a base in a later post.<\/h5><h5>If you are going to be building bases on a frequent basis- I definitely recommend investing in a <span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3RAIVO8\"><em>Kreg jig<\/em><\/a><\/span>. I love my<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3RAIVO8\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em> kreg jig pocket hole system<\/em><\/span><\/a> and I use it all of the time.<\/h5><h3>Step 2<\/h3><h5>Next, I cleaned my piece with my favorite furniture cleaner- dixie belle paint company: <em><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/47VvOgs\">white lightening<\/a><\/span><\/em>. For this, I needed a bucket, water &amp; a clean microfiber rag.<\/h5><h5>Once my piece is thoroughly cleaned inside &amp; out- I start by marking all of the places I need to repair. I use my small shop leaf blower to blow out any lingering dust that settles before applying any paint.<\/h5><h3>Step 4<\/h3><h5>I then taped off the areas that I wanted to keep stained with my painters tape.<\/h5><h5>Then, it was time for primer. I used\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3t7nH13\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\">BIN 123 primer<\/span><\/em><\/a>\u00a0that I had tinted with just a dab of black paint. Using a paint sprayer is going to eliminate brush strokes and allow you to achieve a professional finish.<\/h5><h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>\u00a0(Check out my post on <span style=\"color: #993366;\"><strong>\u201chow to eliminate brush strokes\u201d<\/strong><\/span> for additional tips to achieve a brush stroke free finish)<\/em><\/h5><h5>The paint color I chose for this piece: Dixie Belle Paint Company mineral paint in the shade <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3NjjgHg\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>\u201cCaviar\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a><\/h5><h5>I applied 2 coats of paint- allowing my first coat to dry before applying my second &amp; lightly sanding between each coat with a<strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em> 220 sanding pad.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/h5><div>\u00a0<\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-591ff4a e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"591ff4a\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d818c41 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d818c41\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Step 7<\/h3><h5>Once my final coat of paint was completely dry- I used my paint sprayer to apply 2 coats of my protective finish.<\/h5><h5>The top coat I chose to use for this project- <span style=\"color: #008080;\"><a style=\"color: #008080;\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/46R42QD\"><strong><em>Flat out Flat<\/em><\/strong><\/a><\/span> made by General Finishes.<\/h5><div>\u00a0<\/div><h3>Step 8<\/h3><h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Hardware Preparation<\/strong><\/h4><h5>While my top coat was drying- It was time to prepare my hardware. The original hardware was in great condition apart from minor discoloration which was easily fixed with a little <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Tj7bpl\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em><strong>rub n buff<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/h5><h4><strong>Hardware &#8220;gold up&#8221; process:<\/strong><\/h4><ol><li><h5>Clean hardware using a <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3t9XS0a\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><em>Brillo pad<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/a> &amp; water. Scrub all present build up &amp; <em>dry completely.<\/em><\/h5><\/li><li><h5>Using a small eye shadow brush &amp; <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3Tj7bpl\"><strong><em><span style=\"color: #008080;\">rub n buff<\/span> <\/em><\/strong><\/a>&#8211; apply small amounts of rub n buff in a swirl motion until hardware is covered to your liking.<\/h5><\/li><li><h5>I usually give my hardware about an hour to dry to the touch &amp; then buff with a lint free rag before installing.<\/h5><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-88db2e0 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"88db2e0\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-145dbc6 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"145dbc6\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h3>Step 9<\/h3><h5>Using a staining pad and a little <a href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/41hiUqf\"><span style=\"color: #008080;\"><strong><em>Restore a Finish <\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/a>&#8211; I rubbed an even coat inside the cabinet, in the drawers, on the drawer sides and shelving to rejuvenate the original stain &amp; hide any imperfections.
