fLOORS, SHOWER & WALL SCONCES
We replaced the dated tiles floors with beige-washed tiles that I scored for under 70 cents a square footsuch a steal!
Instead of replacing the shower doors, we did a budget-friendly DIY update using a combination of Rust-Oleum spray primer and spray paint.
We spray painted the silver shower frame and wall sconces, giving them a sleek, modern black finish.

The Vanity Cabinets
The vanity was completely stripped, sanded, primed and painted inside and out using a custom mix of grey paints from the clearance rack.
We added simple vintage brass knobs from Amazon to bring in a touch of charm. We also lined the drawers with a vintage skull wallpaper and added a shelf under the sink for hidden storage.

the countertops
We gave the original laminate countertops a makeover with a DIY concrete finish, giving them the look and feel of real stone. They were then stained using a grey concrete stain-and the transformation is stunning!

the walls
We paneled and painted the lower portion of the walls in the color Black MagicI’m obsessed with this shade!
To create contrast and cohesion, we added trim between the upper and lower wall sections.
For the upper walls, we first covered the damaged drywall with hardboard for a smooth surface.
Then, we applied two types of wall coverings:
  • A textured wallpaper above the sink, painted in Black Magic
  • A boho chevron wallpaper on the surrounding walls

In the shower area, we used the same grey paint from the vanity to tie the whole space together. The lower half of the shower area walls were paneled & painted to match the sink area, creating a cohesive look throughout.

Then, we reframed the door area that once separated the two spaces, installed new baseboards & framing surrounding the doors. All the doors, baseboards and framing were painted in Black Magic.

The Ceilings
We used a faux wood paneled hack by cutting 4×8 sheets of underlayment project panels into strips, staining them, and installing with 1/4 inch gaps to mimic a shiplap. The ceilings were finished with crown molding, which we caulked and painted in Black Magic. It made the space feel more high-end!
Check out a more detailed breakdown of the ceiling & crown molding hacks I used with the links below:

the Linen Cabinet
We updated the linen cabinet with textured wallpaper, fresh paint, and vintage brass knobs. We also added our vintage skull wallpaper inside & installed a shelf where the old hamper door was, giving us extra storage space.
We then utilized this space by adding various storage displays that we then filled with single use items for our guests, including: soaps, toothpicks, hand sanitizer, Q-tips, dental floss, Chapstick, and lotions.

Final Touches
I wanted this space to feel as “custom” as possible. In order to accomplish this, I replaced or updated even the small things, including:
  • Installed a vintage pendant light in the shower area
  • Swapped out light switch covers with antique gold metal covers
  • Installed a matching gold-finished toilet paper holder
  • Updated the toilet flusher handle to a black one
  • Replaced all cabinet hinges with new vintage brass hinges
  • Used rub-n-buff to update the vent cover & heating element
  • Added a new hand towel holder and a vintage gold hook for bath towels

decor Details
For the decor, I wanted to create balance between vintage & western-boho, while staying true to the dark aesthetic.
  • Framed tree artwork above the toilet
  • grey-washed metal basket for backup toilet paper
  • vintage-goth butterfly canvas and a vintage bath sign in the sink area.
  • a two-teir black basket staged with wooden mushroooms, a candle, and faux greenery
  • a vintage leaf tray holding a brown-glass hand soap dispenser
  • An aztec-patterned grey rug in the sink area
  • Finished with new bohemian bath towels

the final verdict
This bathroom went from an eyesore to it’s own vibe entirely!
I’m in love. It’s everything i imagined-and more. We struck a perfect balance between my dark gothic aesthetic and a vintage-western-boho twist.
