14 PLACES TO BUY FURNITURE

1. facebook marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is one of the most popular places to purchase and sell your flipped furniture! I love FBMP for purchasing my furniture to flip- Take advantage of the filter & notification options available to make FBMP work for you! Get notifications instantly when furniture that fit your filters go up for sale without the scroll work.

2. Craigslist

Craigslist is an old school platform that many people forget about!

3. fb buy-sale-trade groups

Join the 1000+ of groups on Facebook where people are posting their second hand items! This is also a great place to post your flipped furniture for sale to reach customers that are selling furniture (which usually means they are looking to replace it with something new)

4. flea markets

There are lots of people who sell quality used antique furniture in flea markets! I always find beautiful treasures in these filled halls and the search is half the fun!

5. Next Door

The next door app is a great app to get quality furniture that people need to get rid of- a lot of time for FREE! Next Door is where I find all of my “curb alert” projects! This is a great option for those that have the time without the capital to get started on your furniture flipping journey. There is NO shame in this game! I never pass up FREE!

6. Garage Sales

Garage sales and moving sales! Get your cash ready & go garage sale hopping! Tip: Document your mileage when you are making a day out of garage sale hopping- you can right this off as a business expense!

7. Offer Up

Offer up is another app that I have found lots of success in purchasing quality furniture for cheap! Download this free app & gain access to all of the second hand furniture people are getting rid of! I love offer up because I can filter the proximity in which I am willing to drive to pick up and the price range I am looking to spend.

8. Local Thrift Stores

I am fortunate to live in a country area on the outskirts of the big city that are covered in non profit thrift shops. Check out the small town city “Main Streets” that surround you for thrift stores close to you.

9. Goodwill & Salvatian Army

I have found in my experience that Salvation Army is usually priced higher than goodwill. Although, I have found that goodwill is getting a little more “proud” of their merchandise & prices have been slowly increasing with the economy. Tip: Both Goodwill & salvation army have discount days by price tag color, military discounts, senior discount days and loyalty points programs to take advantage of!

10. community Garage Sales

Check out your local paper & surrounding city websites for city hosted garage sale days where you can reach all of the sales on one day! Many neighborhood communities host these on an annual basis so you can mark them on your calendar!

11. estate Sales

Get the Estatesales.net app! This app is a game changer for estate sale finds! The app allow you to see current & future estate sales by location. Estate sales also put pictures of merchandise that will be for sale! Use the catalogs provided under each estate sale so that you can skip the ones that don’t have furniture you are looking for.
I personally like to use this app to come up with my week game plan & use the favorite button to mark which estate sales I want to make sure to hit! I have had great success finding pieces that provide a higher profit margin by shopping estate sales!

12. Auctions

Google “auctions near me” to locate auctioneers closest to your area and check out their websites for a list of current and upcoming auctions. Another website available for finding auctions is proxibid.com. Proxibid allows you to filter by the type, location, date & geographic location of auctions across the map. I have not personally tried to purchase anything through this site, but I am sure that shipping is available- make sure that you check individual auctioneer terms and conditions before making a purchase that you are going to need shipped (especially for larger items like furniture).

13. Friends & Family

Let your friends and family know to call you before getting rid of any furniture! Post on your personal Facebook or even your business page! It is crazy how many people have furniture that they want to get rid of! I have people reach out so frequently to GIVE me furniture if I will just get it removed for them! I have even accepted free furniture from friends of friends that are just not trying to deal with the hassle of trying to deal with everything involved with trying to list & sell their things.

14. HiBid.com

My personal favorite and best kept secret! I have had such amazing finds on this website- so good, I almost didn’t want to share it, I have literally purchased solid wood china hutches on this site for $5.00!
I LOVE this site, I LOVE this site, I LOVE this site!!!
You have to create an account with payment method to make any bids on this site but it is totally worth it. These are all ONLINE auctions with local pick up! Filter with your zipcode to find current & future auctions with detailed picture catalogs of items up for auction. This site allows you to make live bids on items from the comfort of your home! I personally love that I can set up my highest bid on each item that I am interested in purchasing and then let it do its thing. This site allows you to set your highest bid but you wont necessarily pay that much! It is all about what bids others are putting on that item at the time of auction close!

For Example:

Lets say I find a beautiful antique dresser that I want to place a bid on- The site tells me that there is currently 1 bid on this particular piece & the bid is set at $5.00. The site also lets me know that for this particular sale, each bid must be in $5.00 increments- With this information, I go in and put in my “high bid”(the highest I am willing to pay) at $100- The site then updates the bid automatically based on the original first bid. So, lets say that the first person that put a bid in put in a their high bid at $20.00- When we put in that $100 high bid- the site will update the bid & tell you “YOUR WINNING”& will adjust the price to $25.00. If no one else goes in and bids then you will be getting this item for $25.00! Now lets say that someone goes in and sees that the current bid is now $25.00 and THEY put in a high bid at $50.00- the site then automatically updates the price to $55.00- You are still winning- the price will be updated & will instantly notify the bidder that their high bid was not enough- they can then keep increasing their bid until they out bid your highest bid which will then put them in first place to win the bid or they will stop- they have increased the price now that you are currently going to spend to $55.00 but you are still winning & under your highest bid by $45.00.
This is an AMAZING site to use if you don’t have time to physically go to auctions & sales. Simply put in your bids at the price you are willing to pay and when the auction closes- you are notified of what you have won & time/location of pick up. They will give you an approximate location of pick up but will not give you the exact address until auction close.
